Unveiling Rape in Nigeria
In Nigeria, as in other parts of the world, women are prone to various types o f sexual violence both within and outside marriage or the home. The sex-specific nature of the offence further makes it a fertile ground for the persistence of various myths about women who get raped. It is widely believed that survivors must have done something to cause their rape e.g. dressing to expose their bodies to tempt the rapist, going to inappropriate places at inappropriate times. Unfortunately, a more worrisome trend is the recent increase in reported cases of child rape. This basically involves the rape o f children from the ages o f 2 years to 15 years old. This book basically covers the painstaking efforts at bringing to light, the horrors associated with the nature of Rape and the aftermath.
